爸爸的生日又到了，是他101 歲的生日！養(yǎng)老院打電話來特別允許安排我們星期天去探訪父親。見面的地方要用玻璃窗隔開，不能夠有人體接觸，限制最多可以來二個人。在新冠病毒疫情隔離三個多月的今天有這樣的特別待遇，我們不僅是知足，而且對這個安排是感恩了！<div><br></div><div>Dad's birthday is approaching, it's his 101st birthday! The nursing home granted a special visitation for us this coming Sunday. The meeting will be held in an area installed with a big glass partition, where no personal contact is allowed, and with a maximum of two visitors. After more than three months of lockdown under the Pandemic Emergency Act, we are not only content, but feel grateful for this opportunity. <br></div> 永偉給爸爸準(zhǔn)備了小蛋糕，這樣在見面的時候他可以吃。還準(zhǔn)備了一個生日蛋糕給養(yǎng)老院的工作人員，請他們和我們一起慶祝和共享爸爸的生日。<div><br></div><div>Flora bought a piece of Swiss roll so that Dad could have it when we meet. Dad quickly recognized us, showing a very big, happy smile. "Everyday I come down to look for you. Yesterday I came here too (looking for you),” he claimed. The US-Canada borders have been closed because of the Coronavirus pandemic, so he could not make the visit. YC, Gloria and their family jointly wish Dad a very happy birthday.<br></div><div><br></div><div>From reading the letter, Dad just realized that it's his birthday today.</div> <p>養(yǎng)老院的工作人員出來為爸爸唱生日歌。他正專注地讀永吉的祝賀信。估計爸爸沒有聽到身邊快樂響亮的歌聲。</p><p><br></p><p>Sunrise staff came to sing Happy Birthday Song. Dad was concentrated on reading YC's letter, so he probably didn't hear the cheerful loud happy singing. </p> 在養(yǎng)老院封閉前二星期的一個晚上，爸爸在回房間時乘電梯下錯了一層樓，走進了和他自己房間在同一位置上的其他人房間。剛剛上任的經(jīng)理聯(lián)系我們，要把爸爸調(diào)換到集中照顧老年癡呆癥的樓層。搬到那里，他就失去了走出樓層的自由，失去了坐電梯下樓的自由。每天能夠到樓下去走走，去餐廳吃飯，是他的運動，是他的社交，是他每天生活的一個重要部分。我們不同意調(diào)動。一時和新任經(jīng)理的關(guān)系有點緊張。經(jīng)過幾番交涉，最后以請一個私人看護每天晚上看著爸爸不讓出房間，才得以保留在原來的房間里。<div><br></div><div>About two weeks prior to Sunrise Senior Living Community's lockdown, Dad one night inadvertently entered a room in the same location after he got off the elevator at the floor below his own level. The new manager at Sunrise contacted us and demanded to move Dad to the top floor where they house the residents needing special care for memory loss. Living in this floor, Dad would not be able to leave the floor. This meant that he would lose the freedom of taking the elevator to the ground floor by himself, having his meals in the dining area. These were important parts of his daily exercises and his social activities that he was still able to manage on his own and enjoy. We disagreed with the relocation and the relationship with the new manager became delicate at the time. After some negotiation, we settled on hiring a private care personnel to watch Dad every night to help keep him inside his room. <br></div> 二周下來沒有什么特別情況，退掉了私人看護。3月13日養(yǎng)老院開始封閉，斷絕訪客把外面的新冠病毒帶進養(yǎng)老院。為了防止晚上爸爸發(fā)生同樣的事故，永吉和永偉每天輪流守著視頻，實時觀察爸爸的房間，如果有情況，馬上打電話給值班護工，請他們上去看看。一直觀察到凌晨3點才休息。接下來的二周還是沒有特別情況，到4月2日我們停止了晚上的實時監(jiān)控。<div><br></div><div>We stopped the night care personnel after two weeks without any unusual activities. On March 13, Sunrise imposed the lockdown to keep the visitors from bringing the Covid-19 virus into the nursing home. To prevent the earlier incident from happening again, YC and Flora took turns to watch Dad's room in real time via in-room cameras. They would call the nurse on duty to check if Dad was walking towards the door. Every night, they monitored continuously until 3 o'clock in the early morning. There were no unusual activities in the following two weeks. We stopped the nightly live monitoring on April 2, 2020. <br></div> <div><br><div>隔著玻璃窗我們?nèi)苏蘸嫌啊?lt;/div></div><div><br></div><div>Taking a selfie through the partition . <br></div> 從養(yǎng)老院封閉三個多月來，爸爸經(jīng)歷了不少的艱辛。我們突然間不去探望他了，工作人員都戴上口罩，護士每天來三次測試體溫。養(yǎng)老院里要每個人都留在房間里，飯食也送進房間。整天一個人在小小的房間里，明顯地看到他的情緒受到影響。我們兄妹三人除了天天在視頻中觀察他的動態(tài)而無能為力，僅可以隔一二個星期給爸爸寫一封信，讓他知道我們還一直陪伴在他的身邊。<div><br></div><div>Dad endured much hardship over more than three months of lockdown. We stopped visiting him all of a sudden, the staff at Sunrise all put on face masks, and the nurses came by to take his temperature at least three times a day. All residents were asked to stay in their rooms, and meals were delivered to each suite. Staying in his room all day long, there were clear signs of stress and depression. Three of us could only watch him through in-room cameras every day but we felt totally helpless. We had written a few short letters to let Dad know that we were with him all the time. <br></div> <p>5月10日起爸爸頻頻去廁所，14日凌晨在廁所里摔倒了。幸好沒有什么傷。接下來的幾天，爸爸開始不吃東西，一直臥床，情況很不好。護工也告訴了我們的情況。除了給爸爸清潔，換洗衣服床單，送水送飯，護工開始給爸爸喂食。他們不僅耐心地喂，而且也非常體貼，準(zhǔn)備了幾種飲料，甜品，能讓他多吃一口是一口。有時侯，一頓飯護工會分幾次來喂食，吃到足夠的食物才收走餐具。</p><p><br></p><p>Dad has been going to the washroom frequently since May 10. He fell down inside the washroom on the early morning on the 14th, but fortunately he wasn't hurt. In the following days, Dad stopped eating and stayed in the bed. His condition deteriorated very fast. A care manager also informed us of his condition. In addition to helping him clean, changing his clothes and beddings, and delivering his drinks and meals, the care managers initiated to feed Dad as well. They were not only very patient, but were also very thoughtful and brought in several drinks and desserts. They assisted Dad with his eating, even if it was just one extra bite. Sometimes, care manger would come back several times in one meal, only clearing away the meal tray when he had eaten enough of the food. <br></p> <p>一天一天地，爸爸從臥床進食，到靠著床背坐著吃，再到坐在床邊上自己吃，后來可以下床來坐著輪椅吃。奇跡般地他的體力恢復(fù)，精神好起來了。最后又開始下樓去吃飯！</p><p><br></p><p>From Dad was bedridden, to be fed in bed, to sit up at bedside, later, Dad was able to eat his meals in the wheelchair. Day by day, Dad gained his energy and strength, and magically recovered, in good spirits. Finally, he went downstairs again to eat his meals! <br></p> 好幾天沒有下樓了，護工再幫助看一下，檫擦臉再走出去。 <div><br></div><div>He has not left his room for a while, a care manager helped checking his face and wiped clean.<br></div> 爸爸的康復(fù)，完全是護工們的盡心盡力，細(xì)心照料的成績。大部分護工我們連名字都不知道，他們的照顧和護理遠遠地超過了我們的期望，更超過了我們自己能夠做到的。非常感激他們24小時默默地，兢兢業(yè)業(yè)地付出。每個護工和其他幕后的工作團隊都是我們的英雄！<div><br></div><div>Dad's speedy recovery, is entirely because of the total dedication and loving care of the care managers at the Sunrise Senior Living Community in Richmond Hill. Many care managers of whom we don't even know their names. Their care services have exceeded our expectations, and have been more than what we could do by ourselves at home. We are grateful for their diligent, hard work, 24-hours around the clock. Every single member of the care team, including those who work behind the scenes, are our heroes!</div> 聽到女兒和兒子來看他，爸爸迫不及待要下樓。一路向外走去。護工給他擦點護膚霜，更加精神。<div><br></div><div>Dad hurried to head out of his room after learning that his daughter and son were coming to visit him. A care manager helped him put on some lotion to freshen up his appearance.<br></div> "請停一下," 一個護工給爸爸修修胡子。爸爸急著要走，有點不耐煩了。<div><br></div><div>"Please wait,” a care manager gave him a quick shaving. Dad was in hurry, getting a little impatient. <br></div> <p>5月24日一個護士講爸爸比上個月瘦了4.5公斤。他老人家吃了不少苦，受了不少的罪。這個星期來爸爸已經(jīng)開始自己走下樓，自己去吃飯了。老人家在這場疫情中硬是挺了過來！今天探訪看到爸爸從里面自己走出來是百感交集！</p><p><br></p><p>On May 24, a nurse informed us that Dad had lost 4.5 kilograms since last month. Dad indeed suffered a lot during the last few weeks. This week however, he was able to go downstairs by himself and to eat his meals in the dining area. Dad has endured the troubles of this pandemic well. When I watched him walk out of the residence area today, I became very emotional. <br></p> 和子女在一起，吃生日蛋糕，滿足和高興全部都寫在爸爸的臉上。<div><br></div><div>There was such happiness and enjoyment written all over his face from seeing and chatting with his daughter and son and tasting his birthday cake. <br></div> 爸爸再見了，我們下次再來看你！祝您永遠身體健康！<div><br></div><div>Bye Dad, we will come back and see you soon!
