<p>Meerkats </p><p>They like to live in group which is called a mob. The baby meerkats are called pups. They are good diggers who can dig hundreds of holes in one morning. They live in the burrows underground, which has 15 rooms connected by tunnels. They like to eat scorpions, beetles, lizards, and grubs. They are as big as squirrels. They can stand up on their back legs, with their little paws hanging in front which is cute and funny.</p><p>Every meerkat in a mob has their own job.</p><p>Some of them are guards. They will watch for the predators on a high spot such as a hill, a tree or a rock. When danger is coming, they will warn others by making a loud peeping sound, so that others can hide into their burrows quickly.</p><p>Babysitters</p><p>Some of them are babysitters. They watch over and take care of the babies while their parents are out for hunting.</p><p>Teachers</p><p>Teachers will teach the youngs how to find food. They show them how to eat, too.</p><p>Feeders</p><p>As a mammal,meerkat pups need milk too. Mothers and other females in the mob fee the babies by turns.</p><p>When the predators is coming, meerkats will stand together, and show their teeth and hiss to scare off the predators. Or they just run, and hide in their bolt hole which is wide enough to fit many of them at once.</p> <p>Lions</p><p>King of the beast. They live in group called a pride.</p><p>A pride can be as large as 40 lions. The pride rests, plays and hunts together.</p><p>Male lion is the only feline animal who has mane. While the female cat doesn’t . They are parts of the big cats too. Tigers, jaguars, cheetahs and leopards are big cats too.</p><p>They can weigh more than 3 grown-up men.</p><p>They live in the savanna in Africa which is grassy area with few trees that gets very little rain.</p><p>They sleep for about 20 hours a day.</p><p>They hunt at night. It’s cooler when the sun goes down. Female lions do most of the hunting. Zebras and wildebeests are lions favorite foods. They are not good at sharing. The adult males eat first. Then the adult females eat. The youngest lions eat last. Sometimes there is not enough food, so they have to fight over the food.</p><p>Female lions will leave the pride to have its lion cubs born. Lion cubs live in a den which is hidden place in the bushes or a cave. Mother lions have to change the den when it’s getting to smelly to attract other predators, so mothers have to keep them hidden for a few weeks. They will join the pride when the cubs getting bigger. Cubs like to run, jump, wrestle, stalk and pounce. They cam play with almost everything, even its mom and dad’s tails. Playing help them to be hunters.</p><p>A lion’s roar can be heard from 5 miles away.</p><p>Lions keep their claws sharp just like pet cats do.</p><p>A lion’s tongue has tiny spines that face backward. The spines help a lion remove meat from bones and dirt from its fur.</p><p>They can eat as much as 240 hamburgers in one meal!</p><p>They can “talk” too. A hum or a puff says hello. A snarl means back off! And a roar means stay off my land.</p><p>When they are happy , they snuggle and rub their heads. They lick each other, too.</p><p>They like to live together. They help one another to live in the dry, hot savanna.</p> <p>Porcupine</p><p>Stay away from a porcupine.It’s not a pig. Actually, it’s a relative of mouse which means it’s rodent too. It has long spines called quills(about 35cm long) on their back. Quills are the sharp spines usually seen on hedgehogs and porcupines. It must be hurt if one got prodded by those spines. When danger is near, it will shake and rattle . When it attacks, it will first take a few steps back and then dash at the enemy to stick into them. Ouch!</p> <p>Tiger</p><p>It’s the biggest cat in the world. It lives in the forest. Unlike house cats, tigers like water, and spend a lot of time in water too. Sometimes they even hunt in the water. They live in hot place such as Indonesia, and cold place like Russia. China has the biggest tiger, the North-East tiger, which is very rare to see in the wild.</p><p>They have black stripes on orange fur which is very thick to keep them warm.Their iconic stripes can help them camouflage in the tall grass, trees and brown leaves. Their preys may not seem them until it is too late.</p><p>Tigers have terrific eyesight which allows them to see clearly and hunt at night.</p><p>Big paws with soft pads help a tiger walk quietly like a house cat. Sharp claws hook into prey and don’t let go.</p><p>They have big muscles on their legs which help them to leap or dash at their prey.</p><p>Tigers are carnivores. They eat meat. Their favorite food are hooved animals, such as buffalos, zebras, deers, and wild boars.</p><p>Hooves are thick nail like a coat on animals feet.</p><p>Whiskers help tigers feel its way in the dark.</p><p>They have sensors in their long sharp teeth, which can detect the pulse of its prey, so that the tiger can give the fatal bite.</p><p>Female and male tigers come together only to have cubs during the mating seasons. Otherwise, adult tigers live alone. After the mating, the mothers will raise the tiger cubs all on their own. Mothers got really sensitive and grumpy after the birth, even the daddy tiger cannot see the babies either. It usually has 2 or 3 cubs at one time.</p><p>As a mammal, tiger cubs drink their mother’s milk.After 3 or 4 months later, they start to eat meat. Tiger cubs learn hunting skills through playing games like leap, pounce and chase. When they are 2 year’s old, young tigers leave the family to find their own territories , and female tigers may have new babies again.</p><p>They mark their territories by scratching on the barks just like house cats do.</p><p>Instead of purring , they can make a chuffed sound to show they are cozy. They can roar. One can hear that from miles away.</p> <p>White tiger</p><p>You can not see them in wild, only in the zoo. Its a gene mutation kind of Bengal Tigers. The first white tiger is caught in India, which is the ancestors of all the white tigers all over the world. It can not grow the orange fur. But its brown stripes, white coat and icy blues eyes are quite a sight.</p> <p>Kangaroo</p><p>Kangaroo is good at jumping. It can hop with its two strong hinder/back legs. Female kangaroos have pouches where the baby kangaroo can stay for a year since its birth. The baby kangaroos have to stay in their mother’s pouch because they are too weak and fragile to stay outside. They are born with their eyes shut. They are hairless and blink when they are born. Look , they can stand up on their hinder legs, with their claws hanging in front. They are herbivores which means they like to eat plants.</p> <p>.Giant anteater</p><p>It has a skinny head, which allows them to put his mouth right into the holes to eat bugs. It can eat nearly 30 thousands bugs a day, mostly are termites. It has a long and skinny tongue, which helps it to lick the bugs. It forelegs are claws which help it to dig. it has a big bushy tail.</p> <p>Brown bear</p>
